Tax Policy-making and Reform Coordinator of the EOTI Tax Academy at Emmanuel Onyeabor Tax Initiative (EOTI) | International Tax Expert (Exchange of Information) at the African Tax Administration Forum (ATAF) in South Africa

Reem Hamed Mohammed Abu-Zaid is an international tax and tax policy expert with over twenty-three (23) years of extensive cognate experience in taxation and finance. Her career includes fourteen (14) years’ experience in international tax, specializing in exchange of information; seven (7) years’ experience in Egyptian domestic taxation; and two (2) years’ experience in accounting and finance practice.
Reem currently serves as an International Tax Expert specializing in Exchange of Information at the African Tax Administration Forum (ATAF) in South Africa. She was most recently an Assistant of the Deputy Minister of Finance at the Ministry of Finance in Egypt where she was responsible for the international tax file and coordinated collaboration between the Egyptian Ministry of Finance and the Egyptian Tax Authority. She was also concurrently a Manager of the Exchange of Information Department at the Egyptian Tax Authority where she was responsible for the global forum on transparency and exchange of information for tax purposes peer review, amongst other things. She was further concurrently a Manager of the International Taxation Department at the Egyptian Tax Authority where she was responsible for preparing the Egyptian model for tax avoidance agreement, amongst other things.
Reem has also acted as a trainer, mentor, and instructor in international tax and exchange of information, respectively with the United Nations (UN), the ATAF, and the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD). She has attended and presented at multiple conferences and workshops in international tax and tax policy matters.
Reem holds a Bachelor of Commerce (BCom) degree in Accounting and a Master of Science (MSc) degree in Economics, both from the Ain Shams University in Egypt. She further holds diplomas in Economics, Governmental Management, and Language Interpretation and Translation, respectively from the Ain Shams University in Egypt, the ESLSCA University in Egypt, and the American University in Cairo, Egypt. She speaks Arabic and English.
