Prince Tochukwu Agu is an emerging tax professional and a student member of the Chartered Institute of Taxation of Nigeria (CITN). He holds a Bachelor of Laws (LLB) degree with First Class Honours from the University of Nigeria (UNN), where he emerged as the third-best overall and second-best male graduating student in his class. He received multiple awards for his outstanding academic prowess, including the Dr. Chukwudufu Ubaezuenu Award for Environmental Law and the 1986 Old Boys Prize for the top-four best graduating students. He is also a recipient of the prestigious Femi Gbede Law School Scholarship award. He is an Associate at Olaniwun Ajayi LP in Lagos, Nigeria – one of Africa’s top-tier full-service commercial law firms, where he advises on several market-shaping and policy-defining transactions.

In addition to his growing expertise in taxation, Prince is also cultivating expertise in energy and environmental law, capital markets, private equity, and commercial disputes resolution. Spurred by his unwavering interest in taxation, Prince led two different teams to emerge 1st runner-up on each occasion in two tournaments, namely the National Tax 180 at the Obafemi Awolowo University in Nigeria and the National Tax Debate at the University of Lagos, all in 2023.

Prince is a researcher and writer with a drive for excellence in his endeavours. He serves as a research assistant to three professors of law at the University of Nigeria, in various areas of law such as tax, environmental governance, energy and power governance, as well as trial advocacy. His extensive research experience in these roles led him to establish Prudent Consult, a professional writing agency with a reputation for outstanding results. Prince’s remarkable contributions to legal research and advocacy have earned him multiple national and international accolades. He was named winner of the Uche Val Obi, SAN National Judgment Writing Competition 2022, winner of the National Brief Writing Competition 2023, and Best Memorial Award at the Philip C. Jessup International Moot (National Round).

Beyond his academic and research advocacy pursuits, Prince has remarkable leadership skills. He was President of the Court of Appeal and Head of the Judiciary of the Law Students’ Association during his LLB program at UNN, where he enhanced judicial credibility and mentored over 150 students. He was also Campus Director of the Law Students’ Association of Nigeria (LAWSAN), where he organized legal aid initiatives for inmates at the Nigerian Correctional Centre Enugu. He further organized the widely attended “Navigating the Exam Space” webinar, benefiting over 1,500 students, and improving exams performance rates across various institutions. As Director of Programs at the Innovation Law Club of Africa (UNN Chapter), he curated content on technology law and enhanced student engagement. He also served as Assistant Stream Lead for the Value Added Tax (VAT) Unit of the UNN Tax Club, mentoring 80+ students on the raging controversy regarding VAT collection in Nigeria.

Prince has gained valuable experience in tax law, corporate governance, and environmental law practice through internship roles held at Templars, Omaplex, and Carepoint Management Limited. In addition to his legal internship roles, Prince worked at JAACO Engineering Services as a site supervisor, where he played a key role in conducting Environmental Impact Assessments (EIAs) and ensuring regulatory compliance, significantly increasing the firm’s sustainability index.
