Karim Adel Elkatawy is a Senior Manager in the International Tax & M&A services of SBA Grant Thornton in Egypt. He was most recently an International Tax Consultant at the Egyptian Tax Authority (Ministry of Finance), where he served in the Advance Ruling Committee and International Tax & Exchange of Information (EOI) Department. Karim has over fourteen (14) years of extensive cognate experience in global tax policymaking and reform, analysis of legal frameworks, and negotiation of international tax agreements, alongside a deep understanding of complex tax regulations. His expertise includes advising businesses on global tax policies, managing Base Erosion and Profit Shifting (BEPS) compliance, and implementing the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD)’s two-pillar solutions to the problem of globalization and digitalization of the economy. 

Karim is an International Tax Advisor at the United Nations Economic Commission for Africa (UNECA). He is also an International Tax Expert & Trainer certified by both the OECD and the United Nations Committee of Experts on International Cooperation in Tax Matters. In December 2023, he was featured as an International Tax Expert at the International Tax Inspire Conference where he participated as a Panelist and Technical Speaker on the issue of reforming tax administration in developing economies. Karim holds a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) degree in International Taxation (2025), a Master of Laws (LLM) degree in Taxation Law (2009), and a Bachelor of Laws (LLB) degree (2007), all from the Zagazig University in Egypt. He also holds an Advanced Diploma in Tax Policies from the Helwan University in Egypt (2016). He speaks fluent Arabic and English.
